In a Judo grading, say for example if you fight a black belt and you are only a yellow belt 3rd mon, If you beat the black belt do you get his belt?

hmmm...you are going to have to get somebody else to answer your question currently, my school doesn't grade in Judo just teaches it (that is supposed to change sometime just hasn't yet) so while I know moves, etc. technicalities like that I am not sure of.

well as far as i know,

 

No, you don't get his belt.

 

You have to go through all the training and learn the techniques and then you get your belt, just like on the other martial arts. :smile:

Ive never heard of that. But I always see lower rank people beat high rank people using common submission holds. Its a common thing.

I've seen that too, in judo i've watched and in tkd - the higher ranks sometimes try to be too flasy - stick to basics! :nod:

I have heard that some Martial Arts schools do use this system - to get the next belt, you had to defeat an opponent who was higher graded than you.

 

In fact, when we get new members to the club, they often say "do i have to fight someone and beat then for my next grade, cos that what my Grandad says"
