Apollo Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 Angus, have you ever been to Egypt? Probably not, how do you know it exists? Just because people have TOLD you they've been there doesn't mean it exists, correct? Maybe Egypt does not exist at all, people have made up pictures and stories about going there to amaze other people... That is why I choose to believe in God, I Don't just believe in what I see, I aceept more than that. I am a Muslim, and I have convinced many of my non God believeing friends to convert to Islam and they have became much happier with their lives. My point here isn't to advertise my religion, but to advertise belief. I think if you look at everything scientifically, life starts to lose its meaning, it becomes nothing but numbers and equasions, experiments, and scientists trying to prove that theire is no God by creating such things as the theory of evolution. (Which does not make the least bit of sence to me.) I am happy with my religion and beliefs scientifically as well. To this day, no scientific errors were found in the Koran, it makes predictions that came true, it talks about how mountains are formed, how babies are born, how clouds give off rain, this information was not known to any man around 600 AD, when this religion was created! SO it has to be from something else. It is also in interesting fact that 3 out of every 4 non believing scholars that try to found errors in the Koran, actually convert and become Muslims themselves! (Again, no advertisement, this might have happened with other religions as well.) Anyways, that article is ridiculous. Are those people trying to get people killed? That having faith in God will stop a thug from slitting your throat or raping your wife/girlfriend? Unbelievable, that article is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. So the kids that go once a week to the YMCA to learn Judo/Tae Kwon Do/Whatever are empowered by demons?
thaiboxerken Posted July 3, 2001 Author Posted July 3, 2001 Teaching belief is fine. Do your little religion things, but to expect others to believe what you believe isn't right. To prosecute others for not believing what you believe is not right. Sending terrorists to kill the "white devil" is not right. How many innocent people have died in the name of Allah? Too many. It is the same with other religions also. What you should keep in mind is that man created "God" to explain the world, it wasn't "god" that created man. Man also created religion as a sort of law to control the masses, either in a good way or in a bad way. Religion is just another tool of powerful, charismatic men to use. The guy that wrote the article probably had a bad experience with martial arts. Therefore, he went to the bible for some answers. He found that the bible says martial arts are evil. Now, if he had a good experience, then the bible would tell him that it is a good thing. The bible is written so poorly that anyone can interpret what they want from the stories as they see fit. It still happens today that people use the bible to prosecute those things they don't agree with. Mormons tend to thing that black people are descendants of Kaine and that interracial dating is wrong. Muslims, middle-east muslims, tend to think the USA is an evil empire that stand against everything in the Koran. Christians tend to think that homosexuality is evil and wrong. My point is that religion is just something people use to justify their own views. This isn't wrong, more power to you. But when those views and actions start to harm other people's lifestyles then the religion is becoming just another cult. Kickbutt Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 Great debate you guys, I'm really glad we are able to express our own views and nobody gets offended - not many places we can do that, so my hat's off to you all. Ken - you basically summed up everything I believe...I agree with you 110% - very well put. Ouss. Apollo Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 Ken, I am sorry that you have bad information, but the group who thinks the white man is the devil is the Nation Of Islam, which is not Islam at all. Orthodox Islam is arguably the most peaceful religion in the world. "What you should keep in mind is that man created "God" to explain the world, it wasn't "god" that created man. Man also created religion as a sort of law to control the masses, either in a good way or in a bad way. Religion is just another tool of powerful, charismatic men to use." Not very smart to ask me to keep that in mind, since I don't believe in that statement. I didn't prosecute anyone. If someone is non-religous, Islam teaches to let them live their non-religous lifestlye, and they should be able to life their life as freely as they want. "Muslims, middle-east muslims, tend to think the USA is an evil empire that stand against everything in the Koran" That statement made me literally laugh out loud, ignorance ken, it is not a virtue my friend. I have never met any Muslims that believe that. The thing is, every middle eastern country has a terrible leader whose rules, laws, and actions are against Islam. So ignorant people like yourself make that a sterotype. I am sorry that you do not have more inforamtion on the subject. You have obviously never read the Koran, you have no idea what it teaches. "My point is that religion is just something people use to justify their own views. This isn't wrong, more power to you. But when those views and actions start to harm other people's lifestyles then the religion is becoming just another cult." You are starting to sound like the guy who wrote the article on how the Martial Arts are bad, except you both lack info, and you both argue your points with little knowledge to back it up. "Teaching belief is fine. Do your little religion things, but to expect others to believe what you believe isn't right" Ok... don't know where that comes from. I do agree that the bible today is written poorly, that is why I am not a Chrstian. Ironically thaiboxerken, it is people like you that often convert to Islam, those who see religions as stupid, often see the science and logic in the Koran. I am not saying you are going to ever believe in God or whatever, just that I understand your non'religous views. And on homosexuality, I personally believe it is sick and wrong as well.
thaiboxerken Posted July 3, 2001 Author Posted July 3, 2001 You may not believe that man created god, but it's true. It was man that created religion. I may not know of the things in the Koran but I will look into it since you believe that it is such a great book. Men of faith tend to ignore other people's views, I am not a man of faith so I will research what you have said. As far as homo-sexuality, I don't understand why it is sick and wrong, I think it's gross myself but people should do what they want to do as long as it doesn't harm others in doing so. My wife is bi-sexual and she is awesome, we love each other to death. There are lot of misunderstanding of the homosexual/bi-sexual lifestyle that people don't know about, that's the only reason it is considered a sin to religious folk. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
Kickbutt Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 "And on homosexuality, I personally believe it is sick and wrong as well. " Well Apollo - yes you are going to have to pay for that statement...how DARE you post something as cruel as your above statement. You could have said it in a more respectable way, without having your obvious disgust evident - you don't sound like a very peaceful or respectful person to me - your comment has no place on this board - and by the way, you, with your statement have just proven to me that you show no tolerance nor compassion towards gays - nor anyone else different from you. Do you realize you are only adding fuel to an already out of control fire? Gays must live with persecution every day of their lives... And thanks to people like you, it seems as though it will never change. And one more thing - you have done the same thing that you are criticizing Ken for - making statements with no prior knowledge or idea of what you're talking about - you are attacking an entire community of people who have done nothing to deserve this... I thought religion was supposed to teach tolerance! I'm thoroughly disgusted by your blatant disrespect. If you think something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room.-Unknown-
Angus Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 And on that stupid, stupid, stupid argument about Egypt being some made up thing - i could buy a plane ticket right now and bloody well go there couldn't i!?!?!? hdfweahgdhj gjshf sd gjh fb !!! I'M GOING INSANE!!! i can't control myself when people make stupid reasonings like that, when they can be easily played off! I can't very well go and buy a ticket to heaven could i? You're free to think whatever u want about sexuality though. I'm personally hetero all the way, but sometimes i wish i was a lesbian. Take it easy people, we don't want any huge disagreements here. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
Karateka Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 Through all heated debates and ones that bring up topics such as this, there is one thing that always ruins the debate: Anger. Kickbutt has a right to be angry with Apollo. I agree that how you said your views was intolerable. Perhaps, Apollo if you explained your views in a more compationate way, then people may better understand your views. Kickbutt, you have a right to be angry, but showing your anger will not solve anything, only boil blood. To fully understand what he is trying to say, you must have a cool head. Thaiboxerken, I take it you are not a Muslim. I am sadly assuming you are not. You yourself have admitted that you are not a man of the Koran. Fine, your choice, I am not diminishing you on that. I feel that your information, however, is misguided from one thing, the Media. Media is a powerful tool, and they know themselves that they shape society. They control what people see of the rest of the world. The Fundamentilist groups that started this debate are in almost every religion. It is not to say that there beliefs are wrong, provided that they hurt no one. Once their beliefs start to hurt people, then it goes against everything most religions teach. Fundamentalists believe that for some reason, there is one true religion and one true belief. That is never the case. Belief exists in all of us. Whether you do not believe in God does not matter, you still have your beliefs. I am a Sikh. I am not trying to promote my religion, but it has taught the Sikhs to show respect to all religions. Even we, however, have fundamentalists groups within our ranks. Hinduism, also teaches to respect others. I cannot say that anyone is right or wrong, that is not why I replied. I replied to stop the outbursts which were to eventually come to this debate. Keep a cool head, be understanding, and be courteous. Mark these words, for they have helped me in the past, help me in my present, and will live with me in my future. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
Karateka Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 No argument or opinion is stupid, it just may be misinformed. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
Kickbutt Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 I understand what you are saying, Karateka - however I will not tolerate any kind of discrimination... I simply could not leave that comment unanswered. Anger has it's time and place - and this was it. I am a very peaceful and respectful person and tend to stick up for the underdog. This was a nice clean debate until the gay comment. I am however finished arguing, as I said what I meant and am now done with it. P.S. You just never give up do you Angus! Hahahahaha!!
