Nevermore Posted September 19, 2003 Author Posted September 19, 2003 You only need to stop the blood going in or going out. Both is obviously better though. Perhaps your uncle was doing what is known by doctors as a Carotid sinus massage. Since they're arteries doesn't that mean they're both for getting blood into the brain and not for getting it out? (Since you can feel them beat) pmh1nic so you think that by applying a reasonably high amount of pressure it would take about a second or 2 to make somebody black out?
Nevermore Posted September 19, 2003 Author Posted September 19, 2003 I know you guys are going to think I'm crazy (either for doing it or admitting it) but I just took my middle finger and my thumb, found both carotid arterys and applied a modest amount of pressure for about 2-3 seconds. Boy did I get very, very woozy. I WON'T be doing it again. Especially after reading the warning about JohnnyS about the potential for a stroke. Thx for being a lab rat in my quest for knowledge lol
Nevermore Posted September 19, 2003 Author Posted September 19, 2003 By the way, I'm pretty sure others will try to apply this knowledge on themselves or others once they've read about it here, please bring out reports of those experiences, it will be very appreciated! A big thx to all those who have replied already
Warp Spider Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 I've tried this, it is quite difficult to grab a person's corotid artery/arteries when they are resisting. A RNC is far easier to apply. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
sk0t Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 RNC = REAR NAKED CHOKE! sk0t"I shall not be judged by what style I know, but how I apply that style againsts yours..."
Sasori_Te Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 JohnnyS is correct. This sounds like a carotid sinus knock out. It is VERY dangerous. Lots of stuff can go wrong. If you do happen to have a stroke or your heart stops because of this particular technique using cpr is not very effective. So practice at your own risk. I'd leave it alone if I were you as you sound like you have no training what-so-ever. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.
Coco Posted September 25, 2003 Posted September 25, 2003 dude i wouldnt try it, anything thats playing around with ur arterys/etc is extremely dangerous, and even then i wouldnt take risks of using it even if i knew how. Shito Ryu (3rd kyu) RETIRED - 2002-2003Now studying BJJ(2006)
