SoulAssassin Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Theres alot of posts on 'what would you do in a streetfight? eye gouges, groin kicks, nose breaking, throat shots etc..' I am just wondering if everyone actully plans to actully go straight up and do something like this, or do they handle it other ways? Personally I basiclly dont go thinking im going to kick the person in the groin. Everything happens naturally. You train to be able to counter/strike punches/kicks etc.. So when someone throws a left hook wouldnt know you wether to block, grab/throw, kick, parry? I have replied to a post on here saying sometimes Martial Arts doesnt work in street fighting because how are you supposed to stop someone from throwing bricks or rocks at your or just swinging like a mad man? Lets just say the person basiclly goes toe to toe with you.. How would you respond? -SoulAssassin"I aint gonna eat, I aint gonna sleep, aint gonna breath till I see what I wanna see and what I wanna see is you goto asleep, in the dirt permanently"
JohnnyS Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 Drop my level, double leg takedown. Or Knock him out before he even started to throw punches. Why wait for him to start the fight? BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black BeltTKD - Black Belt
Radok Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 If your already in boxing range, do the tyson manuvour and chomp off his ear. I would probably use an uppercut to come up under his chin and strike his throat. Or grab him and pull him into a knee in the nuts. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
shotokanwarrior Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 It depends on what is open at the time of attak but yes i would go for thoes targets they should be the first line of attack in a self defense situation. Where Art ends, nature begins.
Northren Ogre Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 To be succsessfull in a streetfight you have to be fexible, able to think while fired up, and adapt quickly. Drop low and double leg take down sounds good, but your opponent isn't gonna stand there like a fool. http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
martialartist1 Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 well, if someone threw bricks at you, you better run baby! naa simply dodge like a boxing or skilled fighter. then keep dodgeging until you come close to the offender, then take him out with one of your strongest techniques.
delta1 Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Theres alot of posts on 'what would you do in a streetfight? eye gouges, groin kicks, nose breaking, throat shots etc..' I am just wondering if everyone actully plans to actully go straight up and do something like this,... "I basiclly dont go thinking im going to kick the person in the groin. Everything happens naturally. You train to be able to counter/strike punches/kicks etc.." is about what I'd say. I don't rule out those strikes, but I don't limmit myself to them either. And I certainly don't go in preplanning to use any particular strike. I have replied to a post on here saying sometimes Martial Arts doesnt work in street fighting because how are you supposed to stop someone from throwing bricks or rocks at your or just swinging like a mad man? Lets just say the person basiclly goes toe to toe with you..How would you respond? MA developes reflexes, movement skills, situational awareness, and a whole list of things that might come in handy if someone throws a brick at you. If a jerk throws bricks your way, would you rather dodge them as a martial artist, or as a fool with nothing better to do with his time than ask you stupid questions? Freedom isn't free!
shotokanwarrior Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 I would also throw bricks back Where Art ends, nature begins.
paolung Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 just an observation here... SoulAssassin never said "he"... so we don't know if it's a male or female opponent... now, notice nearly everyone's response that assumes a male is the opponent. "It is not how much you know but how well you have mastered what you've learnt. When making an assessment of one's martial arts training one should measure the depth rather than the length". - MASTER "General" D. Lacey
Treebranch Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Some MA's teach you how to evade and protect yourself against weapons, whether it be a knife or someone throwing a brick at you. Other MA's just teach you how to fight one person, hand to hand. Also if your MA doesn't cover how to deal with someone swinging like a madman then it's probably not based in realism whatsoever, sorry. In a streetfight you have to be careful and not to eager to just start fighting, the person could be hiding a weapon and ready to use it. Usually if someone is a little to eager to fight I try to diffuse it by talking to him and asking him his name. Usually people will dehumanize you in order to justify why it's O.K. to start a fight with you, so when you ask their name it throw them off. MA's is supposed to teach how to be a better person as well as how to survive. People who go out to start fights are deeply insecure and constantly feel the need to prove themselves only to find that this cycle will lead to their own destruction. Smart people think before they do something stupid and stupid people do stupid things without thinking. If you want to end up dead pick fights and never walk away from a fight. Clever people live longer. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
