shotokanwarrior Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I am trying to get an idea of how wing chun would work in the street, Has anyone had to use is for real and if so what techniques were used? Where Art ends, nature begins.
Drunken Monkey Posted September 17, 2003 Posted September 17, 2003 not quite sure what you are asking? you intercept the incoming attack, hit back or lock or whatever comes first. think about what you would do with your shotokan and it's probably the same, albeit with different moves. despite what a lot of people think, there isn't a whole lot of difference between martial arts when it comes to what we would do when attacked. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."

Read a book!
shotokanwarrior Posted September 17, 2003 Author Posted September 17, 2003 I disagree, in shotokan if someone throws a punch the block that would be done is not really a block but an attack to the arm rendering it weak or useless. In wc I hear your goal is it intercept and strike at the same time. I am thinking of joining wc and want to know if anyone has used it outside on the streets? Where Art ends, nature begins.
Ti Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 People in Hong Kong used to settle duisputes by fighting on roof tops. Many were trained in Kung Fu. So to answer your question. Yes. It has already been used in streets.
Drunken Monkey Posted September 19, 2003 Posted September 19, 2003 well, i was being a bit over simplied so as to not complicate matters. when you chose to intercept an attack there are options open to you. i) you can just stop it and hit back ii) you can stop it and apply a lock/control iii) you can intercept at a nerve cluster to increase stopping effect then hit back iv) you can intercept, then hit with the same arm v) you can hit without the need to intercept most of the differences are probably found in the way it is taught (i.e what you are told). in execution, it will be "block", "hit back". post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
