Treebranch Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 BLH28 70 miles to take BJJ when you have Judo and Jujutsu at your disposal. Don't be so taken by the hype that BJJ has. BLH28 Posted September 20, 2003 Author Posted September 20, 2003 but i hear judo&jujitsu doesnt have many ground skills, but i could be wrong. does anybody here take judo or jujitsu, and does it have ground moves like bjj?
Sens55 Posted September 21, 2003 Posted September 21, 2003 BLH, Ju Jitsu has plenty of ground moves. After all, BJJ didn't invent ground work. They popularized it. There are different variations of Ju Jitsu, each with slightly different focuses. But a good Ju Jitsu school will teach you the same basic things as BJJ. BJJ just focues MORE one groundwork than most TJJ schools. In fact, just about every move in BJJ if found somewhere in TJJ. The set up and the execution may differ, but the moves are still basically the same.

Where do you think Carlos Gracie learned his Ground Skills from? On top of that, there are documented cases of Judoka’s Beating the Gracie’s themselves, on the ground, no less! Which is better, BJJ or Judo? it is like asking someone whither Hockey or Soccer is better. Similar fighting styles, Judo focus much more on Throws, but don’t be mistaken, they do plenty of ground work. A good one point throw (an instant win in judo, which is received from throwing an opponent flat on his back with significant force) is hard to get, most Judo matches are won by submission, as are Jujitsu. And even if they do focus on Standing more then ground work, when you get to a BJJ school and train there, you will be a more well rounded fighter then the rest before you have had more training with Standing grappling in Judo, and you will know how to incorporate it all in with Strikes and kicks from Jujitsu.
BLH28 Posted September 29, 2003 Author Posted September 29, 2003 thanks, but i'm doing jeet kune do now heheheh
