Level One Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 Hello everyone. I've come to realize that the world is becoming a more and more dangerous place and that I should learn to better defend myself. I'm 26, and have been thinking for a long time what style is best for and decided on Aiki-Jutsu. The problem is I live in the NYC area and haved looked up schools and can't find any that teach this style. Could anyone (student or teacher) refer me to a listing of an instructor(s) in the Brooklyn or Manhattan. Thank u.
paolung Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 i haven't found any aiki-jujitsu schools there, but i have found a few hapkido schools. hapkido's founder studied aiki-jujitsu extensively from the same guy as Ueshiba (founder of aikido), but incorporated more strikes and kicks so as to make it very well rounded. you might be interested in that, as it incorporates much aiki-jujitsu in it's curriculum (as well as other things). Pacificshore Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 level one, if you are looking for aikijujitsu in new york, i know of 2 senseis that teach it somewhwere there. they are miguel ibarra and roy goldberg. i know this because i attended a seminar several years back with sensei bernie lau, who had trained with these two. i have a video tape with them training, and both ibarra and goldberg are excellent instructors. ibarra is hardcore in the video. i know he had some videos made by panther. try looking them up on the web to see where they are teaching. sorry i can't provide one.
