bigpopparob2000 Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 What are the differences b/t the two styles? I saw a show on the discovery channel about San Shou, and I wouldn't have known it wasn't Mauy Thai had they not said otherwise.
TJS Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 Thats because San Shou is basically Ameature Muay Thai. After The chinnese Kung Fu practiconers were severely beaten time and again several decades ago by Thai fighters they invented "san Shou" The main diffrence is there are Throws in San Shou but they usually dont allow elbows or knees and they wear alot of pads. here is a good write up on the history of Kung Fu vs Muay Thai and the creation of San da/San shou http://crane.50megs.com/index6d.htm
Drunken Monkey Posted September 12, 2003 Posted September 12, 2003 san da = loose hits san shou = loose hands both are chinese terms that every term uses to describe singular techniques. for instance, san shou in wing chun would be something like "lap da" or "pak sau, chung chui". as a style, san shou has kinda existed as long as there has been kung fu. it is almost just another training style. i've over simplified what i mean here but i hope you understand. what i'm saying though is that it wasn't invented several decades ago... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."

It really was a good and enlighteninig read. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
Eve Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 they are similar I in that they use all the limbs, the bigger difference is that SS looks for more takedowns, in the clinch MT tends to try and stay close to avoid knees, SS trys to create room to throw.
Natural Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Wow, my own country is beating this guy, wow good article. A karate punch it is like a dasvasted stick blow. Instead, a blow of Kung Was is comparable to a lash with a chain that has attacked, allaltra extremity one ball of ferro
SevenStar Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 there are more differences - choice of technique, for example. SS guys prefer the sidekick to the roundhouse, as it's harder to catch and throw/sweep than a roundhouse. There are alot of subtle differences that people don't pick up on, but SS is not MT with throws...
SevenStar Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 also, in recent years, san shou has done much better against MT and has beaten MT fighters.
Natural Posted March 1, 2004 Posted March 1, 2004 Q1. If not for Muay thai, sanda would not even been invented. A karate punch it is like a dasvasted stick blow. Instead, a blow of Kung Was is comparable to a lash with a chain that has attacked, allaltra extremity one ball of ferro
TJS Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 also, in recent years, san shou has done much better against MT and has beaten MT fighters. True but sometimes it has to do with the calibur or thai fighters they face and secondly if you look at the results SS guys almost ALWAYS win by points from takedowns and not TKO or KO's...where as the thai fighters usually win by ko.
