firefly Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 The Mystery of the One inch punch! Well this is what i have come up with! Leaning the body forward an inch on impact gives the punch incredible power with very little effort. Try this exercise stand in a front stance, feet rooted to the ground. Simply from the hips lean fwd about two inches, then back, then to the right and to the left. Keep your back straight! Do this in a relaxed manner, as if you were avoiding a low branch when you were walking in the countryside. Ok the practical: when punching fwd on impact lean fwd so your body is 10 degrees more fwd. The punch will have more power. On the recoil lean the body back. Because the movement is so small it is'nt a strain to the body and the opponent should'nt pick this up. Try this technique on the round house kick side kick ect. The side ward movement can be used on throws, blocks and cresent and spinning kicks. Try this very gently at first. enjoy The Fire Fly
Drunken Monkey Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 ....leaning is wrong. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Shorin Ryuu Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Drunken Monkey is correct. If you focus on your outward stance, you are doing it wrong. It is an internal technique. Ask a Goju Ryu person about chinkuchi (which means one inch power). This is a very basic technique, yet some people misunderstand it. Maybe as an atonement for my earlier comments in the Goju Ryu thread, I'll let them field this for question for you. They should be able to explain it to you, if they feel like it. I can talk about it later (I feel lazy right now), if they don't want to... Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/
Fiona Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 It's interesting that I ran across this topic because I just finished watching Kill Bill 2... lol
Drunken Monkey Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 from the chinese styles that i know. the first thing regarding 'inch power'/'shock power'/'short range bridge power' is that you must have proper structure and control of correct structure. one way to harness the power of structure is to maintain perfect structure so that the ground becomes the point where your 'push' begins. another way is to carry your structure forward in a step so that your mass/momentum+effect of ground adds 'push' effect. finally, you can 'snap' into perfect structure to produce a 'zero-inch' snap/push. BUT none of these things are done in a way that compromises your basic structure. i should point out that this is slightly different to 'spring' energy/power that looks similar in execution (where structure is maintained at all times but 'relaxed'...) post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
