the "X'" choke as you call it can be done on someone wearing a T-shirt by looping your thumb under the collar and then grabbing a hold of a chunk of trapazoid muscle with the fingers of the same hand. this might take a bit of work, it's dificult to get a grip strong enough, but it works extremely well.

you can then proced to choke them until unconcuisness occurs

also by putting one arm behind the head at the base of the skull and pushing back on their forehead (and maintaining pressure) you can suffieciently cut off the supply of oxygen to the persons brain, regardless of what clothing their wearing.

If in your journey you encounter God, God will be cut

There aren't a lot of chokes you can do from the mount with no-gi. I'll try to explain some, but it's hard to understand without seeing.

One you can try is to put your right arm under his head, your right hand on your left bicep, put your left arm over his neck and grab your right forearm or bicep. Now walk your hand back towards your wrist which should choke him.

The other is head-arm choke, or as some people call it, arm-triangle choke. Go to http://www.bjj.com.au/techniques.html and check out the head-arm choke by my instructor.

Here's another way, starting from side control:

Say you're on his right side and he lifts his left elbow high. Drop your head under his tricep so he can't put his arm back on the ground. Now slide your left arm under his head and put your right hand on his left knee. Jump over to the other side of his body, pushing down on his knee so he can't put you in guard. Then tilt him up onto his side and get your left arm as deep through as you can so that your left bicep is against his neck. Put your left hand on your righ bicep, your right hand on your ear, squeeze your elbows together and lean forward so your whole body is flat on the ground on his left side. This is a great choke and my favourite for no-gi.

THE TRIANGLE CHOKE (USING YOUR ARMS), this a rear naked choke with an arm inside(your opponents arm). you can do this choke from almost every position. you usually do it from standing or across side, its a sick move.

a little boxing, a little wrestling, a little muay thai, and a lot of jiujitsu( brazilian)

Also the leg triangle. One leg over the shoulder and around the head, the other around the chest underneath the arm. Lock you legs together and squeeze.

Also, try a regular choke. Lying down, forehand of right arm against the artery in the side of the neck, left art under the opponent's right arm (in their armpit) and linked to your right. Get as close to your opponent as possible and squeeze.

You can do a "scarf" choke. I think this might be what JohnnyS was describing. Basically you try to catch his arm. he throws a RH punch, your deflect it so that it's over your right shoulder. Reach behind his head with your right hand and grab your left bicep. With your left hand grab his forehead. Push your head against his arm and squeeze both elbows together. If you get it right, he'll choke out.

Some of those gi chokes can still be performed in the street if the person has a nice thick shirt on. There is a guy who is a bjj blackbelt with the Machados, I belive his name is Chris Hautser or something, who has a video set called "Street jits" (street jiu jitsu) and in one of the volumes he has a section on t-shirt chokes. You should check it out.

Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.
