in your wooden dummy form, right before you do the double arm grab+stamp to the knee there's a bit where you make contact with the middle/low arm then with the same arm, hit to mid-section.

well, just wondering how you do the contact to the arm?

we do it like a forearm strike but i have it done like chum sau and i have seen it done as a gum sau (hope you understand).

so please, let me know how you do it and what family of wing chun you do.

thanks.

Drunken Monkey if I follow you this would be near the end of the form??? At least the way we do it. It can be difficult because every lineage has variations in the form and the lengths vary also as well as the order in which they are put together. There is a chapter that uses gum saus. But the way we do it, it is with a low bong sau, so it would be like using a bong sau on a low punch. I am from the Ip Ching family.

I am trying to find out where in the form you are talking about there is no reason to be defensive. There are numerous different ways of performing the dummy and several moves in the form can be misinterpretted. In chapter 6 we use gum saus, and in Chapter 7 we use low bong sau just before the lop. I believe that is the portion you are talking about.

don't get me wrong

not being defensive

just letting you know why i'm asking this question.

and about what part of the form, yeah, it's the section before the double arm grab.

a "block" to the middle arm with you on the outside then you step over/through to the other side and your hand turns into a mid section hit (pivot body) followed by a "little sweep" motion with foot.

the same "block" happens in the last bit before the double hand grab. for this bit we definitely do a punch style block (like the one from chum kiu) which bounces up for the grab.

but it is the one in the previous bit that intrigues me as this seems to have lots of variations.

If that is the part you are talking about then it is bong sau.

the same "block" happens in the last bit before the double hand grab. for this bit we definitely do a punch style block (like the one from chum kiu) which bounces up for the grab.

This sounds totally different from how we do it, but in the portion before the lop it is definitely a bong sau.
