Drunken Monkey Posted September 2, 2003 Posted September 2, 2003 depends on where you are. in china, wushu is taught in many, many, schools.... as for wing chun, i think there are more guys who do this around the world compared to the others. mantis is still relatively small because of it's strict/small lineage. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Chop Choy Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 Hey! You're completely missing out Choy Lay Fut. I'm quite sure Tai Chi is the most widely spread and known Chinese martial art out there. One of the distinct reasons for its fame is that it is not only favoured by its competency in combat, but it also serves as an excellent way to exercise the body for health benefits. Not involving any physically demanding moves, such as aerial jumps and tornado kicks, it is suitable for all ages. Apart from Tai Chi, I would say that contemporary wushu is increasingly gaining popularity among the young people, but perhaps the traditional arts such as Wing Chun and Choy Lay Fut are still governing the external scene in the west. It depends a lot where you are.
Drunken Monkey Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 well being a wing chun guy i am bound by my honour to ignore choy li fut!!! hehe, only kidding mate... to be honest i totally forgot. sorry about that. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Lee Posted September 8, 2003 Posted September 8, 2003 I'd say that in the West, Tai Chi would probably be most popular (for it's health attributes over martial ones) and second would be Wing Chun. "Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. Put water into a tea pot, it becomes the tea pot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friend."- Bruce Lee
