CheekyMusician
THis is off topic but, can you tell me what is in a yellow belt test? Or can you direct me to where this already been asked? Thanks. It varies from style to style and club to club. I'm assuming yellow belt is the first coloured belt after white in your club? What style do you study? Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.
mouko_yamamoto
I'm ashamed to say this but I don't know the style. I'll remember to ask eventually, but for now, I'm content to just call it karate. Yellow belt is the next belt after white where I study. Ok, well I study Shotokan karate, and for my first belt (orange at my club) I'd to perform: -chudan oi zuki (stomach level stepping punch) -jodan oi zuki (head level stepping punch) -mae geri (front kick) -age uke (rising block) -soto ude uke (outside forearm block) -uchi ude uki (inside forearm block) -gedan barai (downwards block) I'd to perform Kihon Kata (Taikyoku Shodan) and I'd to do some gyaku zukis and mawashi geris to focus pads. I think that was everything, but I'm probably forgetting some stuff. Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.

ronryu
I teach 6 taikyoku kata for white belts. It takes about 6 months to test for there first belt. Yes I know that the taikyoku kata are not shito ryu kata but it makes it alot easer to teach the more complex kata after they have taken some time to work on the taikyoku. Yes they are my sin. Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life .Sandan Motobu ha Shi-to ryu karate Katsu ryu kempo Ryukyu kobudo
Goju1
We (IOGKF Goju Ryu) learn one for white belt, one for yellow, one for green belt (saifa), one for purple (Seienchin), one for brown (Shisoshin) So you have roughly a year or more to work on a kata before you learn a new one. then at Shodan we learn Sanseru, a year and a half later at Nidan another, and so on. Not counting Sanchin and Tensho, the breathing katas, which we start to learn at about brown belt level.
