Bdaze Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 I love to train hard in my art, and i get alot out of my 2 hours twice a week in the Dojo. but for someone like me, thats not really enough. i feel i need to practice a technique hundreds of times befor i feel comfortable using it. unfortunetly, the only person i can practice with in the class outside of school is my freind, but he never wants to practice when we hang out. so is there a good way to practice my art by my self? i specifically mean techniques that involve joint locks and such, i know i can practice strikes by my self. goshinman Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 I know what you mean. It's tough to find people in my Jujutsu dojo to train with outside of the dojo. It really bothered me for years because I know you need to randori to really get the feel for the joint locking techniques. I wish I could help you out but there really is no substitute for free fighting to get the neccesary skill and timing down to execute the grappling moves in taijitsu/jujutsu. I might suggest going to a Bjj school in your spare time just to spar with some of there guy's so that you can get a good work out, that's basically what I had to do. I know it can be EXTREMLY fustrating to work out with people who are constantly trying to convince you to switch to their style, but if you can put up with that then I highly suggest you do so. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
JKDfreak Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Try shadow grappling.I know this may sound crazy but as shadowboxing, picture yourself an opponent and try to work on your techniques solo first, going through each one slowly stand up and on the ground, then do this by picturing yourself a resisting opponent. This is harder than shadowboxing because the visualisation is harder and you're grappling but it works. You'll find that you'll improve. personally I did that back in times when I was beginning with judo, and I worked for me. Bdaze Posted September 2, 2003 Author Posted September 2, 2003 hmmm, ineresting. i would like to try sparring at another dojo, but the only Bjj place around me is about an hour and a half away (boonies of newhampshire) i might try that shadow grappeling thing. mentally visualizing a technique really improves your ability to perform it i hear. thanks fot the input.
