Amateur kickboxing is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.It is an experience you will never forget and will wish on your children and grandchildren. It is an experience known by few but envied by many. If you have any doubts just do it.

He didn't kick correctly, that's why it broke. If you notice he doesn't take a 45-degree angle step into the kick and his leg is somewhat straight. This causes the force of his kick to wrap around and come in from the side causing his leg to break when it hit the other guys shield. A proper Muay Thai kick comes in from the front, driving through the opponent. Poor mechanics made this guys leg break.

In Canada you don't have to wear all the protective gear in amateur fights. If you are doing full muay thai, you will always have to wear elbow pads, but headgear and shin pads only have to be agreed upon by the fighters. My promoter usually lets the visiting fighter decide what he or she want to wear. (of course if it is your very first fight, headgear is mandatory)
