Guest Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 What is most effective for self-defense, Kyokushinkai or Tang Soo Do?
cross Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 It really depends on the person who is learning. Some might find kyokushin best for them while others might like TSD or other styles. All I can surgest is find out has much has you can about different styles and meet a few different teachers. Then make a choice has to which one you want to learn.
mouko_yamamoto Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 yes, I think it greatly depends on the teacher. My teacher focuses on SD and application more than most others I've seen. Tang Soo Do/Tae Kwon Do....Oh yeah, and unofficially...KENJUTSU"There are five possible operations for any army. If you can fight, fight; if you cannot fight, defend; if you cannot defend, flee; if you cannot flee, surrender; if you cannot surrender, die." ~ Sima Yi
SBN Doug Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 Please do not word questions to ask "which is better" in any way. I'll allow this topic to remain only if it can be used to compare and contrast, not judge. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
SaiFightsMS Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 How about discussing the merits of the two styles as they apply to self defence.

Kyokushin is often taught for competition purposes. i.e. low kicks and punches only to the chest ( these are not the only techniques learned, but are used most often). It also can have great application for self defence situations.
