ldmc2469 Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 I was wondering, anyone out there who is a dwarf of any type that practices martial arts? I am a dwarf and I am 3ft tall. I have been practicing for 4 years and I am a brown belt. Be like water my friend...you can flow or you can crash.
battousai16 Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 uh, i think monkeygirl said she was short once. talk to her. don't look at me, i'm 5'11 "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Tibby Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Well, I'm 5'5"... lol. What is amazing are those Drawfs at the powerlifting meets!!! They are so short so they are in the lightest class, and they like barely bend their knees and that is a squat in good form! lol, that is calf work out!!!!! When I first saw one at a meet, I was surpirsed, and he took first in his weight class!
Karateka_latino Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I'm 5'4", a little man. I've been told that Goju Ryu late great master Seikishi Toguchi was around the 5' or 4' 11".
Black Dragon Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Emmanuel Lewis "Webster" is a dwarf and he is a blackbelt in TKD. It doesn't seem like the right art for him. If I was a dwarf I would take Jujitsu or another art that didn't focus on strikes. What MA are you taking IDMC? So recognize or be hospitalized Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.
ldmc2469 Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 Black Dragon, Right now I am currently practicing Okinawan Shorin Ryu. I have had several people recomend Jujitsu to me. But the only class where I live is 25 minutes away and 1 night a week for 2 hours. Aussie, Why do you feel that it should be illegal for anyone under 5 feet to take up martial arts? Does the thought of people shorter then 5 feet threaten you? Be like water my friend...you can flow or you can crash.
monkeygirl Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 It just puts them closer to those oh-so-sensitive striking areas I'm 5'2" but not a dwarf. However, since I took the adult classes, I was the shortest person in my advanced class, so I can certainly understand some of the challenges of being shorter, weighing less, etc. 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
Black Dragon Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 25 minutes isn't a long drive. You should do it if only to me well rounded as a martial artist. But honestly you'll have to worry about situations where attackers will try to pick you up, or use their weight on you. Jujitsu will help you defense these things. So recognize or be hospitalized Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.
TKD Chosen One Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 5'2 Monkeygirl? I'm 6'2. Not that you knew about it anyway, but i dont think we can date anymore.........you're too short for me. My instructor is around 5'4, but i would never think about calling him a dwarf, i guess he's just short. Come to think of it, I would feel kinda weird fighting a dwarf, if i wanted to fight someone short, i'd go fight my 6 year brother, it would probably be the same thing.
ldmc2469 Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 TKD chosen one, Its not the same as fighting a 6 year old. All of my friend who have sparred me say I am more difficult to spar since they have to change there whole strategy. Be like water my friend...you can flow or you can crash.
