What to do

Recommended Posts

yo, i know that fighting in a dojo and fighting in a street are much diff, like punching in the face is bad, your fist has many small bones that can break easily, and so for me i would use elbows for face, fist for neck. and i would never kick above waist. I have others, but what are some of yours?

Trust me, once your fists are conditioned you won't have to worry about breaking them on someone's face. Plus, if you break your fist on someone's face.. you can pretty much guarantee the fight's already over. Kind of like smashing your bo to splinters over someone. If it happens, you won't need a weapon anymore anyway. :P

Once upon a time, many boxing matched were bare handed. One boxer "trick" was to present the face as a target and then tilt the head when the jab came; the other boxer would damage his hand on the crown of the first boxer's forehead.

I suppose you could argue that bare-knucle boxers didn't have conditioned hands, but I wuold image that claim would really need support.

I would try to knee strike the ribs. That ends a fight pretty quick. If he wants to wrestle, a well placed palm heel or punch to the collarbone works well also. Although it is very underrated as a valueable technique.

ya, i can see how useing a makiwara board would help, but its still bone on bone contact, thats why you tilt you head down, bigger target for your forehead. Besides, punching the neck if softer.

Yoshie, good rule never kicking above waist. There is no balance and where there is no balance there is no power, plus you can never be sure of your footing in the street, on the mat is a different story. Two more rules or "principles" to remember concering your hands. Small bones to small target. Hard on soft, which means never use your knuckles on any hard surface of the head. I have known several who have broken their hands on the first shot and no the fight wasn't over yet.

I prefer the palm, as in Wing Chun soft palm to just about any part of the body, it can be very effective. But it really can cause damage to the ribs and can really rattle the teeth if it is used on the head.
