aznkarateboi Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 how do you defend against a push? also, are pushes considered physical attacks?
Warp Spider Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 Umm.. retain your balance? There's some counters to being pushed, but.. why bother? It's not like getting pushed even causes you any real harm. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!

ninjanurse Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Depends on the direction of the push but.... 1) Go with the flow-step back and turn for body side ways so that their momentum carries them past you-then strike (your choice but I suggest the spine). 2)As they put their hands on your chest to push-go with the flow and step back while you trap one of them (or both if you want), place a knife-hand or forearm across their wrist, and then apply pressure as you sink low into your stance. ninjanurse Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Just thought of another one... If they are coming at you to push or rush-duck and take them down from the knees flat onto their backs, mount and strike or choke. Oh ya!!! Warp Spider Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Are we talking a "yo watch where you goin' bro" kind of push, or a "you're a foot away from a brick wall and about to meet it at 30 MPH" kind of push? Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!

shotokanwarrior Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 I have alway been told that no one should be that close to me, If they step closer I move back and tell them to stay away. Next time they come in I consider it an attack and strike first and hard. Where Art ends, nature begins.
G95champ Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 Side step and let them fly by. Some grappeling arts may teach you to just roll backwards or even work a throw from it. Yeah they are attacks IMO. The only thing about a push that is odd is that its not going to do a lot of damage to you physically but if you stumble and fall it hurts your pride. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
