pvwingchun Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 After several years in Wing Chun I began to study Tai Chi. While it has enhanced my Wing Chun i would not recommend it for the beginner. Advance in one system before learning another. If the styles are close then you could have a problem separating the two and become confused. I have a very close realationship with my Sifu and cleared it through him before I began to study Tai Chi. We agreed that if any problems arose, that either one of us detected, I would drop the Tai Chi and concentrate solely on Wing chun since I maintain that as my "mother" art. One thing said it the styles compliment each other then one may make the other stronger. Although the opposite could happen I believe it is an individual thing. We ahve students who in no way shape or form could handle two arts at once, they can't even understand the one. Wing Chun Kuen Alliancehttps://www.wing-chun.us
kle1n Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 yeah do it like me get a solid base in aikido and then take up another art. Be everything. Be nothing.
Fa-Jing Posted September 6, 2003 Posted September 6, 2003 A STRONG BASE in one art is a must before u learn differnt styles. I find that Hsing Yi , Ba Gua , and Wing Chun go together better than u could ever hope. I like to do Wing Chun hands and Hsing Yi stepping it works really good. Ba Gua evasion and uprooting aslo goes good with the othere 2 styles plus the coiling sping like power. Don't Try this at home! "You punch like a pig and kick like a dog"
Lazy Scholar Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 I've often contemplating doing such a thing myself, but i'm further convinced that i should get a solid base in what i'm doing now before i intend to branch out so to speak, but then again, JKD has a lot to offer already. you scythe with it!!!!!!
shazaam Posted September 27, 2003 Posted September 27, 2003 I like Kickboxin, Muay Thai, Judo, and BJJ Peace, Love, Harmony
BLH28 Posted September 28, 2003 Posted September 28, 2003 I train in JKD and a Judu/Jujitsu class. JKD is great for stand-up, and the Judu/Jujitsu class helps in takedowns and grappling. Very good combonation.
