Hawk Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Krav Maga, for some of you that don't know, is the Official Israeli Defense System. It was created to make soldiers out of men, within weeks boys would learn an effective, fast approach to defense against a variety of things, such as small handguns, knives, and all out aggression against the opposing threat. Currently, there are five levels of Krav Maga (Level I-V), and the main U.S. location is in Los Angeles, California. If anyone is interested in Krav Maga, go ahead and post some notes, i'll help you as much as possible.
Karateka_latino Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Hello, I've heard that belt testing is optional in Krav Maga, True or False??
benedictbm Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 we worked on this with our gun/knife self defense it is fun but challengeing.
cross Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 I read a few articles about KM, it seems like a simple and effective style.
Pacificshore Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 SF, I believe belts are optional in Krav, at least that was what I was told when I has at the main dojo in L.A. sometime back. Di'DaDeeeee!!!Mind of Mencia
Kamidake Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 Krav Maga's (relatively) new with optional belts; Jinenkan's old with optional belts! The more things change the more they stay the same. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the inception of the belt system, Kano Jigoro came up with it when he created modern judo. Japan was still a highly stratified society back in his day and he was trying to come up with something that would put all his average-joe students on an equal footing with the snobby ex-samurai. I suspect that introducing a competitive element didn't hurt when trying to sell the new idea, either. Jinenkan will let you do the belt thing if you want, and in fact they encourage it--not surprising, seeing as how the test costs extra--but they don't insist on it, God bless 'em.
