Raven Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Hey all I am haveing some difficulties in chosing a style i want to study under. alright here is my back ground. i am 16 years old, and i have been very succsful in wrestling competitiely. since i was 4 i have been apart of it, so i know the basics on joint manipulation and throws. and i am looking to get the best of both worlds. close combat and longer ranges types. now i live in the middle of no where so i have no access to any Dojo's. so all of my training will be done by me and my motiation. anyone's input on what style i can study under or any input oh about me plan please feel free to express them. Peace : That wrestling kid
Tibby Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 If you have no dojo's and no one to train with, maybe Martial Arts arn't the best thing to comtenue. As a Wrestler, you also know the basics of cardio work and weight lifting, why not one of those? Those can be done better without a parnter and/or master then Martial Arts. But, as for a Martial Art, you should try for Jujitsu.
matt jiujitsufighter Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 well if your all alone i would buy some gloves cuz there has to be someone around that knows how to box, that should round out your training. obviously it is not enough, but its a start and stay away from mcdojo;s! a little boxing, a little wrestling, a little muay thai, and a lot of jiujitsu( brazilian)
Kumite988 Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Well its real hard to learn by yourself. But with that aside I'd also recommend Jiu Jutsu or maybe Aikido or Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.
wrestlingkaratechamp Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Nice to meet a fellow wrestler! I would go for BJJ. Keep lifting weight man.
Black Dragon Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Like they said stay in the gym, until you find a place to train. Going to college in a couple years? Most colleges offer at least one style of martial arts, try to go with BJJ if you can. Your background should help you tremendously. So recognize or be hospitalized Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.
btroadman Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 Definitely buy a Brazilian JiuJitsu book by one of the Gracies. Read and practice as much as you can, get a wrestling buddy who might be interested and practice (at about 50% speed). And all the time keep trying to find an instructor. That is what I did for 3 months before I found a good Instructor, it helped me with the basics and I had a decent foundation. But remember you can only go so far with just books and no instruction, it is VERY important. BJJ - Blue BeltTaeKwonDo - Brown BeltKrav MagaKickboxing
CodyydoC Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 u could save ur money and go on a trip to a foreign country just when u come back either keep training with what u already know or do ur wrestling thing u must be good at it or like it u said u've been doin it since u was 4 Codywhite belt in everything
shazaam Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 Since you already wrestle, just add boxing, catch wrestling and BJJ and find some sparring partners to practice "ALIVENESS" with and you will be an Ultimate Fighter. Sprinkle some Muay Thai in there also. You can learn all this from videotapes but you will need sparring partners. Peace, Love, Harmony
DokterVet Posted October 5, 2003 Posted October 5, 2003 Since you already wrestle, just add boxing, catch wrestling and BJJ and find some sparring partners to practice "ALIVENESS" with and you will be an Ultimate Fighter. Sprinkle some Muay Thai in there also. Yep, there's your answer. You only have to learn four more martial arts. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
