kungfumaster Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 Yesterday i witnessed some of the coolest baton twirling ive ever seen but this does not belong in a martial arts tournament it was very sad if you want to do martial arts do martial arts and if not go into gymastics. this is my opinion. same with non weapon musical forms flips and the like is just silly but very fun to watch. maybe they should do wu shu isntead? Im great you are not
IAMA_chick Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 i like it actually. it's more fun to watch and it puts some flare into tournaments. i think it is cool that some people can do that. Tae Kwon Do15-years oldpurple--belt
battousai16 Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 i like them quite a bit too, they are very fun to watch, and the music and such adds a lot of emotion. i've seen people do some truly beautiful things with them. perhaps i misread you, but did you say wushu is not a martial art? interesting... i don't see why things have to be all "martial" and no "art". G95champ Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 Not much. LOL I don't like the show aspect of MA. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
DeeLovesKarate Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 I have to do two musical forms for my blackbelt extravaganza, which is the huge party-like show/ceremony. The audience thinks it's the test, but that's not the actual test, the test is the day b4, no1 can watch, and the candidates have no idea what the test will be. It's different every year. The musical forms are more of a crowd pleasing thing, or as my sensei put it "the flash and trash of martial arts". I need a song for my open, I had one, but I didn't wanna bellydance... don't ask Dee C.Normal ( 'nor-m&l)-an adj. used by humans to stereotype
Kamidake Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 Baton twirling? I like baton twirling, but I can't quite see what it has to do with budo. Unless you're twirling it round your opponent's head?
Karateka_latino Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Personally, i feel that, in order to be skilled in those shows, you have to put a lot of hard work and long hours of training, so why waste that time in a show when i can use that time to polish my REAL martial arts skills. Just my opinion.
Black Dragon Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 I think musical forms are all right, but it sometimes leads to people showboating, and doing that annoying continuous kiai. So recognize or be hospitalized Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.
