What are the differences between Shotokan and Kyokushinkai Karate? Such as what each style focuses on, and what's the percent of hands and feet?

Shotokan in general = sport style kumite/self defence

Kyokushin almost always (with no exception I know of) = full contact, realistic (contest) kumite/self defence

Oh, Never say Never. I've met and train with real tough Shotokan Karate black belts that were involved in pretty ugly scenarios in the street and they use there skills for Real.

the shotokan should be the kyokushin´s grandfather , but i think that both are similar on the techniques but are too differents on the kumite , because the kyokushinkai is more strong (full contact) , and the body are less sensible to the impacts , but i never really train shotokan only i go to seminars.

Read my Website to learn the basics on Kyokushin.

there are lots of websites on both styeles.

If you can, observe a few classes in both.

but yes, the most glaring differences

will be in the Kumite for the most part.

Kyokushin will prepare you for anything, in a street fight I think that Kyokushin is 1000% better in the fighting point of view... but Shotokan must have it's meriths, ALthougt I can't list any cause, all that has in shoto you'll find in another style...

I wish I had money to practice Kyokushin too... or a traditional Goju Dojo... but I'm quite happy w/ my shito-ryu so I don't mind that much heheheeheheheh

and SHOTOKAN HAS NO CONNECTION TO KYOKUSHIN! the techniques are the same as in every style... as I said, a punch is a punch in any karate style! And even oyama said that shotokan was no good and switched to Goju-ryu! So we can say that the essence of Kyokushin is traditional Goju-ryu...

If you could improve yourself in only three or two months, everybody would be invencible...
