Bdaze
I'm new to the board, but ve been doing Martial arts since i was 5 and i have studied several diferent styles. but theres still one problem ive always had. reflexes and reaction time. the only way ive managed to survive fights up untiil this point is superioir ability to perform techniques, but it takes me way too long to realize im actually in a fight and then react to whats happening. if any of you have good tips for improving my reaction time or reflexes, it would be greatly appreciated. Scorcho
The best way is to work with a partner. Practice one response (ie block-counter combo) for each technique you think will be thrown against you until it is second nature. Once you program it into your subconcious, you will just react as you have trained yourself when you see a certain technique coming. Do not practice multiple counters, at least not until you really have one down pat. I used this system, and while I have no real street fighting experience (see my signature), it made me a two time Uechi-Ryu boys fighting champion. Nice to see someone else who started early. I like the Boondock Saints reference. It sounds like you should increase your awareness first. If you don't even know you're in a fight, then u must be day dreaming all day. If you are aware, you should be able to set the guy up for a pre emptive strike.
