newbalance Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 We were doing some grappling one Friday, and it was the first time for me. I went against two different guys, one being tougher than the other. So the first one was the guy that was good, and my mindset was "just dont let him beat you"...and he didnt, and I ended up beating him. The next guy, this was his first time, and my mindset was "I should be able to beat this guy" and he beat me. It was interesting to notice that when I thought the guy was better than me, I fought harder. When I thought I had the advantage, I didn't fight as hard. /rant
Tal Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 how did you know one guy was better than the other if you'd never done grappling before? never underestimate your opponent (easier said than done). shotokan karate nidanjujitsu shodankendo shodan
Black Dragon Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Common mistake, if I've got to fight someone I dont know, and/or never seen train, I assume they are better until I know otherwise. But even then they could surprise you. I won't get all Bruce Lee philisophical on you b/c it sounds like you learn from your mistake. A mistake I've made many times So recognize or be hospitalized Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.
