TexDeuce Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 I read these posts and wonder where some people get their information. Vale Tudo is NOT a specific martial art, it is just a "no rules" fight. Simple as that. In regards to BJJ, it is a grappling art, in my opinion the best. It has proven its worth in the most realistic setting possible (the UFC and Pride fights). If you want to learn how to strike, which is also very important, take up Boxing or Muay Thai. They are straight to the point and will teach you the most effective way to strike someone while protecting yourself. If you watch the current MMA fights, almost every single fighter uses some form of BJJ and/or Muay Thai/Western Boxing. CloudDragon Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 thanks A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Tibby Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 Yeah, when you WATCH MMA< it LOOKS like they are going BJJ all the time on the ground. There is a reason for that. BJJ watchs is groudn work from Jujitsu and Judo. Why take BJJ and Boxing when you can just take Jujitsu, and get all of it covered in one art?
Venezolano Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 In TJJ you don't learn to strike as you do if you practice MT or Boxing, it's whole different, and also you don't learn as good ground skills as in BJJ. Valencia - Venezuela.
Tibby Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 The TJJ ground work is great. Where do you think BJJ ground work came from? You think the Gracie's just pulled it out of their *? You think a magic catfish popped out of the water and showed gracie how to do an arm bar? TJJ ground work is just as good a BJJ ground work. And as for striking, of course boxing or Kickboxing will have better striker, they FOCUS on striking, while TJJ covers all kinds of different things. But who needs GREAT striking when you have good striking, good throws and take downs, good missdirection, and good submittions?
Venezolano Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 You can't compare BJJ ground game with TJJ, BJJ ground work is much extensive. I'm not saying that The Gracies invented ground work, so please stop puting words in my mouth. ok? If TJJ ground game is SO good like you say, why i haven't seen in a grappling tournament a winner that practice TJJ?. It is clear that your you TJJ is "the ultimate art" the most complete, then why you ask? I would love to see a TJJ vs a striker to Muay Thai to see how good "striking" is in TJJ, and in ground with a BJJ, and in takedowns with a wrestler... And for naswering your aquestion, who needs a good striker when TJJ is the best? Answer: A seriously fighter that want to learn the best from the most effective disciplines Valencia - Venezuela.
Tibby Posted October 4, 2003 Posted October 4, 2003 You tell me not to put words in your mouth, but the rest of your post is putting words in my mouth. If you don’t want me to put words in your mouth, I expect the same courtesy. I don’t think TJJ is the ultimate art, I just think it is the most well rounded art. If a Jujitsu man focuses on his Jujitsu and studies all the technique, instead of focusing only on strikes or only on submission, he will be a great fighter. BJJ is just a spin-off art. BJJ=TJJ ground work.
