Last I checked, a “Paladin” was a holy knight which is obsolete in every aspect of live except RPGs. Where did you get your black belt, Wizards of the Coast?

I believe what Paladin is trying to say is that his style is based on the principles layed out by Dungeons and Dragons.

Anyway you cannot judge MMA based solely on its competitive format, that is narrow minded. It would be the same as judging karate based solely on Point fighting, or TKD based solely on Olympic style sparring.

Weapons, Multiple attackers, different environments, foul techniques, etc. can ALL be addressed in training using sparring safely and effectively.

Actually the martial art I practice has nothing to do with dungeons and dragons, thank you very much.

The attitudes of the western world may have changed, but that doesn't mean that the Lord's work is done. And it shall be done! :kaioken:

PS My art has no belts. Belt are of little use in smiting the unholy, unless weighted at one end or covered in razor blades.

Great article, a little extreme but it get's to the truth. UFC is not reality. If it was it would be completely illegal and fighters would not come back to fight again, sorry. I can't even believe that anyone thinks that UFC is reality. It's a Sport, it's brutal but still a Sport. Royce is a great fighter, but even he's smart enough to fight in the ring. Fighting on the street to prove yourself is stupid. It's a good way to have a short life. I don't know about you guys, but I train because I love MA's not because I want to be a thug. If you love MA's and you love fight in competition, I applaud you. I love watching a good match. Streetfights make me really nervous and can get really out of hand. I see a streetfight in my neighborhood and I start ducking for cover, someone's bound to pull a gun and start spraying bullets. If I am forced into a fight, I want it to be over as fast as possible and I'm out of there, fast. People are idiots and will do stupid things when they are angry. Best thing to do is get the hell out of there, it ain't worth it.

There is a difference between a streetfight and a sport fight, no doubt.

However the article tries to dismiss the effectiveness of grappling in a streetfight because of "vital point strikes" and the environment. Gimme a break. Vital point attacks are not going to so easily stop someone like Royce Gracie or anyone who is motivated and used to pain. Does he really think that if he does one of his "vital point strikes" Royce or anyone else used to fighting is going to squeal, let go and give up the fight - Only in the author's fantasies. As for the environment, the grappler will have the advantage because he can fight in close and will probably be better at takedowns meaning the person relying only on "vital point strikes" will most probably be the one with broken glass in his back, or hitting his head on a cinder block.

BJJ - Black Belt under John Will (Machado)

Shootfighting - 3rd Degree Black Belt

TKD - Black Belt
