Tal
what exactly do you mean by 'new', 'established' and 'genuine'. for example kickboxing is about as new a style as you can get and it is well established as a sport. yet some very old arts such as ryukyu kempo are not exactly well established in modern society. shotokan karate nidanjujitsu shodankendo shodan
Guy_Who_Fights
By 'new' I mean that an instructor branched off from the styles they originally trained in and gave a name to the new one that they do, such as Jeet Kune Do (please no Bruce Lee stories or info, it's just an example). By 'established' and 'genuin' I mean that you consider it to be genuin and not just something some guy made up and has no credebility. Tal
thanks for the clarification. in that case i would consider a new style to be established and genuine when: -it is significantly different from other styles. -there have been at least 3 generations of instrutors & students. shotokan karate nidanjujitsu shodankendo shodan
Icetuete
its a clear sign for being established when there are national associations in different countries.
delta1
... i would consider a new style to be established and genuine when: -it is significantly different from other styles. -there have been at least 3 generations of instrutors & students. Those are good general guidelines. But I'd qualify them to add that you recognize their principles and concepts, as well as their techniques, to be valid, practical and useable under extreme force. By that standard, some might qualify a little sooner than 3 generations, some a lot later, and some will only ever qualify as good marketers of basic fertilizer. Freedom isn't free! Black Dragon
I agree with Tal if the style is distinctly different from others. Also if the founder is at least the rank of Master in two or more styles So recognize or be hospitalized Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.
