Point fighting can create bad habits for the street but has some sporting benefits for building character.

Point fighting involves finding targets and engaging them with control. Some will argue that this type of fighting requires more planning, technique, skill than full contact fighting.

 

If you are the tournament host depending on what you believe is how the tournament will be run.

their are advantages to both, pointfighting allows you to develope control, while full contact allows you to develope your power. In an actual street fight your going to need both.

you could also say chess requires more planning and skill but chess dosent advertise as teaching you how to fight. nothing wrong with point sparring or chess as long as you realize what you are doing.

that sucks you have to concentrate on hitting those colored points on the chest guard in point sparring and i wish there was a point on the head gear. :evil:

That's TKD. I do Wado. We point fight. Points to the full torso. Close stop to the head.

depending which art your in some DO allow kicks to the head, however most tournaments don't allow it.

in my old school kung fu class we did point sparring but i always went for the head and knocked a person down for 10 sec + the teacher just said 'control' :lol: the people were scared of me :lol:
