TKD Chosen One Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Here's some a little more info i found about it.... "Bak Mei aka White Eyebrow, once banned in China and still very much an underground system, emphasizes speedy footwork and quick strikes. " From http://www.undergroundkungfu.com/styles.html
Drunken Monkey Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 i think it is considered underground because it isn't that popular in china and hk where the stories of the hung gar clan, shaolin name, wing chun/bruce lee thing and wing chun/choy li fut fued feeds enthusiasm for those particular styles. look a the mantis styles, it is only popular because of the many cool looking bad-guys in the 80s kung fu flicks. and also, generally speaking, most chinese styles will tell their students not to teach others not because of secrecy but because if they teach it badly/improperly and that guy gets beaten up, it brings shame to the kung fu. this is especially rue in the close up styles like wing chun, bak mei, ying chow, chin-na etc because of the risks involved with getting up close in the first place. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
tsefreeflow Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 I would be more to the point it is more risky not to be close.
OldRookie Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 Dragonslist.com has a scant bit of info on white eyebrow & other lesser & also well known Kung Fu styles. *1st Dan Oct 2004*"Progress lies not enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.""It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them."
KwicKixJ1 Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 man, sounds cool. there are so many kung fu styles out there. too bad there's not some kinda tournament where you can see really really awesome kung fu masters duke it out and show off what each style is known for. that would be so neat to see. cuz with my sifu... he'll do stuff... but not much. he walks around, gives each pair a drill to do... and sometimes demonstrates. but when he does... its like, all you see are sleeves... super stuff. it'd be awesome to see grand kung fu masters show their skills. and with forbidden arts... whats crazy is that, when you think about it, there's only so much a body can do. there's only certain movements your arms and legs will allow, and to make a style forbidden... must be some pretty awesome stuff. so hard to pick which style to study... i guess now-a-days your location and luck play the biggest role in what kung fu style you'll practice. i do Chi Xing Tong Long in the Wong Hun Fun tradition. its pretty great... and 45 minutes from where i live.
