NightShade_UK Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 how long do you need to train to do such a kick, or a kick that is close to that one? http://www.connacht-taekwondo.com/pictures/Side%20Kick.jpg
Icetuete Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 i think the shade wanted to know the lenght of the average piece of string
rb Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 for a picture like that you can throw on one of those monkey suits and have a nice looking pose in a few seconds. You could probably do one of those kicks right now, just lower and slower. Build from that.
IAMA_chick Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 what kick is that..a side kick? b/c if you are in a ma you should be abole to do that already, just as rb said maybe lower.. Tae Kwon Do15-years oldpurple--belt
White_Tiger Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 Depending on your age Nightshade you may never be able to hold a side kick that high. I have students that are gifted and have been able to hold a side kick as high as there head one month into training. You can develop the muscles in your hip by doing slow concetrated kicks. When it comes to self defense when would you ever need to hold a side kick in the air?? Good Luck!
Ironberg Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 I notice the same thing. Everybody has different body types. It isn't impossible to hold a side kick like that - it just takes certain people more time. Like White_Tiger stated, doing slow, concentrated kicks does help. The only reason for holding a side kick in the air is train your kick. However, a person who can do that is also pretty intimidating. A person who can hold a side kick at head level for a minute can also throw lots of kicks (low or high) really fast in a self defense situation (that doesn't mean that holding the kick in the air is their technique for self defense). Budomaru Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 well i suppose it takes the average person around 5 to 8 months to get that - i know this isnt very specific but thats what i can judge from observing myself and others Tenets of Tae-Kwon-Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit-Having fun is half success-Training body to teach mind and training mind to teach body-You can be the strongest and most flexible person alive - but if you cant use those properly you've lost half the point of training
DLopez Posted August 16, 2003 Posted August 16, 2003 5 to 8 months? I wish!! Perhaps for the younger martial artists, but for us older types (40+), it might take longer. I've been working on my side kick for a year now and still can't reach as high as the guy in that picture. Oh well, a good side kick to someone's knee can be pretty effective, no?
