what are some good boxing books for a beginner?

The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.

Been looking for years and have yet to find one. I would say don't waste your time looking. Regardless, it is much better to learn boxing's subtleties in the ring. I train in boxing and it definately more of a style where you are taught the basics but learn the advanced stuff on your own in the ring. You try to hit someone and can't, so you observe them until you figure out why you can't hit them. Then you learn how to avoid strikes like they are doing, as well as hopefully how to defeat that strategy and land punches on them. Boxing classes primarily consist of sparring because the rate of improvement is much higher that way. Just keep in mind when you go to a boxing club that you are there to learn boxing, not to try and defeat boxers with your knowledge of Karate. Be open to the new ways of striking and defending - you will be very impressed after not too long.

Good luck.
