mouko_yamamoto
How do you tie your belt? I've been looking at many MA clubs, and notice people tie theirs differently. mouko_yamamoto
does the sensei tell you how he wants it done? renketsu
I have found that the club usually follows the lead of the instructors as it is them who show the students how to tie the belt (except those who have trained before with someone else). I go for the "not crossed at the back" approach... where the back of the belt is flat and single thickness as that is how I was shown and I also think it looks better (if that counts for anything!). I did attempt to describe how I tie my belt - but gave up as it was getting too complicated to read! Andy. major_motoko
Just ask your sensei or a high grade student. They will be more than happy to show you how to tie your belt, as everyone was a beginner once! I remember it took me ages to get it exactly right. Plus there is more than one way to tie the belt, so just ask how people in your club do it, so you do it the same way Try looking at this previous thread where the question has already been asked: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8515 Goodluck! motoko 2nd Kyu Brown Belt, Wado Ryu Karate-do"Daniel-san best karate still inside!" IAMA_chick
i don't cross mine in the back either. it drives me crazy when people do that because as renketsu said it doesn't look as nice, but i guess some people do things differently. Guest
I was taught not to cross in back, but heard that some styles in korea do. I don't know why they'd do it, but I think that weight training belts would be crossed if it provided better support for their back.... http://www.wdob.net/wdob/images/belttying.jpg

Warp Spider
I'd vote for just wrapping it around your waist once and tying a double knot at the front. Alternatively, I'd just use a leather belt with a buckle on it, but I guess that's not as traditional. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
