Ryu Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 Along with the Kamas, I am considering getting pair of sais, depending on the answers I get, I will get the Sais Pacakge I have put together, or the Kamas package I have put together. Ryan "Ryu" SomersBlue Belt - ITF Tae Kwon Do2 Years - Basic Hapkido
tommarker Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 Sai are a lot of fun to work with. They aren't as flashy as some of the other weapons can be, but they are fairly versatile. Getting hit with the butt end, or struck across the face with the tines (especially when held in reverse grip) doesn't sound like a good way to start the day. They are also excellent for building dexterity and hand/forearm strength. Done properly, they should also help you focus on using your hips correctly as well. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
granmasterchen Posted August 3, 2003 Posted August 3, 2003 i like all weapons so i will refrain from the poll, i think the sais are fun to play with, there are several different styles of sai too That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Warp Spider Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 Sais are cool and I think they would be effective, but generally are not legal to carry and not easily improvised, so their value for self defense is limited. For the dojo though I'd say they are on par with any other martial arts weapon. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!

Someone broke into my house a while ago, armed with a crowbar (most likely used as an entrance tool). I heard him, grabbed my sais (closest weapons at hand) and took a look. He swung down, I blocked with one, and used the other to strike him with. I broke his jaw, 8 ribs and bruised him up pretty nicely. Even better, the cops didn't care... just arrested the mofo... after he went to the hospital of course. The Sai are DAMN effective weapons.
