jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 oh yes it is, did u hear about jean jaques machado entering a big judo tournament and beating them all i did, and bjj has some great standing techniques , and some great self defense techniques and the ground fighting is definately better "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 and some bjj ers have destroyed some judoka, bjj is more technically advanced, im not insulting judo kensai, i study parts of it that i find to be amazing , it has some of the best throws i have ever seen "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
omnifinite Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 But have you thought that they both would be useless in zero gravity. I bet Kano and Helio never thought of that! Hmm... UFC XXXVII... space combat... don your scuba gear and start training folks . That might be Aikido's chance to shine... finger/wrist locks work no matter what you weigh . 1st Dan HapkidoColored belts in Kempo and Jujitsu
Kensai Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 LMAO! omnifinite, alas Aikido still has those "non violence" principles. But perhaps one day I'll try it. Get those BJJers back into line. Yours in Aiki.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 kensai , u don't know much about the origin of bjj and its principles do you? , im just gonna stop arguing with you "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Beef Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 I had one experience with judo in my life and I must say that I enjoyed it. My sisters boyfriend has a black belt in judo, and is extremly talented, he taught me a few things, and it mad me want to learn more. Some day i would really like to take up judo or any other grappling style MA. Boxing - "Tommy Gordon Amateur Boxing Club"Tae Kwon Do - "East Coast Tae Kwon Do"
Kensai Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Whats that Jui Jutsu fighter? I dont remember argueing with you? Yes I know plenty about Maeda Sensei, Kano and Helio. Ask away. Yours in Aiki.

Judo, if it is trained properly is very advanced. There are many, many, many more techniques in Judo. I suggest picking up Kodokan Judo by Prof. Gigaro Kano. You can't say anything about Judo if you only study parts of it. Where do you think BJJ came from? Watch any Judo match and I guarantee you will recognize techniques from BJJ. All the techniques in BJJ are from Judo. I would put the best the Kodokan has to offer against any of the Gracies.

Who was it sanctioned by? Was there anybody nationally/internationally ranked? Was it an open tournament or an invitational? There are Judo tournaments everyday. Some are better than others. You say it was a big one, but please clairfy. Does this mean that Machado is in training for Athens 2004?
