aznkarateboi Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 And my handgun has a better range than your Katana... I don't know what modern samurai carry, but modern Phillipino warriors generally have assault rifles. Again, the fallacy of the basic question is eqposed; "samurai are supermen" lunacy not-withstanding. Here's one for you. A few score boatloads of 1850s Portuguese against a nation full of Samuari of the same period. Or some boatloads of Spanish soldiers and an arcipeligo of Kali warriors? Here's a hint; both Asian countries lost.By the way, there are no modern samurai. And the topic was samurai vs. Kali warrrior, not samurai vs. modern filipino soldier. A Kali warrior uses kali and probably has a stick. =P
Treebranch Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 Thanks aznkarateboi I personally don't see what so confusing about this topic. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
JerryLove Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 They certainly existed in 1940... that's "modern". https://www.clearsilat.com
Treebranch Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 No, they might have been descendants of Samurai, but they weren't Samurai Warriors in the traditional sense. I said no guns remember. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Tibby Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 They certainly existed in 1940... that's "modern". What? Dude, the Samurai where shut down. Sure, they’re descendant lived in secret, still studying the arts, but the Samurai Warriors where not around in the 1940’s. Where are you getting your info?
Treebranch Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 So what who do you think would win, Tibby? "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
JerryLove Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 My bad, the last of the Samurai disappeared in the 1880s. WWII just saw katana wearing conscripted followers of the emperor who were not Samurai class. https://www.clearsilat.com
Tibby Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 So what who do you think would win, Tibby? Samurai, better equipped.
Stold Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 The swords issued to japanese soldiers in WWII were simply stamped out pieces of junk. Could you stab someone with them? Sure. If we were looking at a 1600's samurai, ready for war, we are looking at a lightly armored infantry unit who is fanatically charged with the thought of honor and reincarnation, following the rules and laws of bullshido(A more proper spelling would be Bushido, of course, I think it's all a pile of crap. Though it did keep them motivated and loyal for the most part.) He is most likely armed with a Yari for long range that he can switch out for a katana with an ieatsu maneuver in about .4 seconds. Backup for the katana is a wakizashi, the short sword counterpart to the katana, being the longsword. If you want the specs for the traditional katana, check out https://www.nipponto.com All samurai were trained in a form of jiu jitsu. Judo is an offshoot of Jiu Jitsu founded by Mr. Kano, primarily for sport use. Don't have much respect for Judo? Brazillian Jiu Jitsu stole nearly every move from Judo. BJJ is basically just judo with a focus on ground fighting with the throws removed. What is one of the most common groundfighting arts in NHB competitions today? Why, I think it's called Brazillian Jiu Jitsu! I don't know about the so called Kali warriors, but I'd say any soldier would lose in melee combat to a peak samurai, unless they were a klingon using a batlith. Kekekeke.
JerryLove Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 Sounds about right except that I don't consider bushido * any more than any other religion; and I can think of other warriors I'd actually regard more highly (the Spartans for example). https://www.clearsilat.com
