Tibby,

I don't see how you can argue about the Philippines when you obviously know nothing about the country.

Muslims make up a small percentage but they keep their land, theirs. Mainly, Mindanao. They are not concerned with taking the rest of the country. The rest of the country isn't composed of the Kali warriors. Only Mindano, and in over a century of fighting NO ONE has defeated them , the Moros. The rest of the PHilippines is a moot point, because that is not where the Kali warriors come from, nor is it where they reside today. While the rest of the Philippines fell to Spanish, American, Japanese rule Mindanao remained untouched. Again, NO ONE could take them.

The Samurari had their swords removed from them as an insult and all the Samurai could do was make shira-saya and lurk around in hiding. Peace? After the fall of the Samurai and Shogunates Japan began on its path to imperialism and eventual participation in World War II as part of a facist regime for Asian domination. They sure could have used real samurai warriors. Instead they had officers and western trained soldiers. Not all of Japan has been immune to western influence and remained pure either. Same with the Philippines. What's your point? There are parts of the Philippine Islands the Spanish influence never reached and/or could never replace. So what?

Japan didn't need the Samurai? The Samurai were wiped out because the replacing government feared them and wanted to insult and make mockery of them. What did the Samurai do to prevent this? Submit and disappear.

Warp Spider, the US is not a developed country? The US has tried twice and will continue to try to wipe out the Moros in Mindanao and have failed every single time. Unless everyone on the island is killed, women, children, and innocent, the Moros will never be defeated. To speak with the arrogance you do simply magnifies your ignorance about the history of the region. While I do not view the Moros as invincible, I do not pass them off as simply as, "If I had control of a modern army..." Seeing as how many more leaders and men more qualified than you or I have tried and failed.

Just another moot point, but the majority of Filipinos in Mindanao do not even speak Filipino or the national language Tagalog. They have kept and preserved their native language since they arrived on Mindanao millenia ago. Spanish influence? The Spanish could never touch Mindanao and they knew this. They simply left it alone. Japan couldn't take Mindanao, they knew they couldn't so left it alone. The US tried when the Philippines was a colony, but failed and eventually abandoned the attempt. The current Philippine government has been trying since the end of WWII and has failed.

The fighters there are just of a different caliber. The Best? No. Just good at what they've been doing for centuries.

Also, a Kali warrior most likely wouldn't "bonk" a samurai on his head and wait for the samurai to seppuku. That's just an ignorant statement made without the slightest clue as to what a Kali warrior is.

MA.

P.S.

The word Moro, as used in english to describe the people of Mindanao, was originally a spanish word used to desribe the Moros of Europe. When the spanish arrived in the Philippines the Mindanauans looked like Moros so were called Moros and the name stuck. It is the english term for the majority of people on Mindanao. Though they may also be called Filipinos as well. :)

In the end I still say it depends on the weather. But my bet would be on the Kali Warrior of old. If we're talking whole armies of samurai and Kali that might be a different story. But there are too many factors to simply say Samurai! or Kali!

During the War of 1812, britain never tried to 'conquer' america. What happened, was that British Admirals were stealing american sailors, because they didn't recognize us as a country. The War ot 1812 was a three way, between the US, the French, and the British. The british even got some good hits in, inclduing Burning down the Presidents house, though modern Canadians take credit for this, that would be like saying US soldiers stationed in Italy are italian troops

Uh.. perhaps I could clarify this. The war of 1812 was not about Britain trying to take back the United States. I recognize from discussions with Americans that there is a good deal of US propeganda surrounding the war of 1812 so here's what REALLY happened:

The colonies "the United States" wanted to expand into the north, the region that "Canada" now occupies. Canada was not officially a country at that time. However, the defending force was made up almost entirely of people from the colony that would become Canada, not soldiers from overseas. The "Canadians" essentially used terror tactics.. the "American" soldiers, who were not educated about the "Canadian" aboriginals, knew only that they were "savages" and that they would peel your scalp off. Understandably, this scared the crap out of the "Americans." The aboriginals were also experts at canoeing, and quickly made their way to the White House before word even got back there that a war had begun. The "Canadian" soldiers participating in this attack were primarily from Atlantic "Canada" and aboriginals from across "Canada." They took the White House by storm and burned it to the ground. Demoralized, the "Americans" gave up the attack. The French also supplied naval support on the atlantic coast primarily as a diversion during this attack.

There are a lot of people who will probrably dispute this, but remember that modern American history books have been creatively written to tell a different tale, and, in fact, many Americans deny that such a war ever even took place... so before you point to history books and internet sites, perhaps you could take a look at a recent study by the UN regarding freedom of the press in various developed countries.

hmmm, i'd say a samurai because they are a more rounded fighter, for the most part

kalistas train single stick, double, stick and knife, double knife, machette, empty hand, etc. They are pretty darn rounded.

i think samurai and ninja's were the best sword handlers.

why would you rank them any higher than a chinese broadsword weilder, a spanish espada y daga master or a scottsman and his claymore? What frame of reference do you have?

samurai could win any warrior except, a kabuki warrior

P.s.

The Moros of Mindanao can't even be defeated by modern US troops today. They had a six month try at it two years ago and could not take out the Abu Sayyaf. They even worked in conjunction with the Philippine National Army.:)

Actually if my memory serves me correctly that had to do with the philippine government asking for US logistical support in stopping radical Islamic terrorists (abu sayyaf) who were busy terrorizing schools, kidnapping foreigners and trying to creat an Islamic state. The president of the philippines made it very clear that the US was only to provide night vison equipment and scanners and could only engage the enemy if fired upon, other then that they didn't want the US special forces troops getting involved. If they had got involved I belive the US troops would have beaten the Abu Sayyaf and quite easily IHMO.

And only the US is capable of propeganda huh? How do we know that the Brits didn't juice up THEIR textbooks. And you don't honestly belive the UN is unbiased do you? I learned about the war of 1812 in high school and they taught us everything you mentioned INCLUDING the burning down of the white house in when it was located in Philadelphia.

It seems to me that there is a great deal of foreign propeganda about the US being this big spin cycle when it comes to our history. Trust me when I tell you we learn about the good and the bad.
