Technically if you have a good system of fighting you can fight with anything, garden hoe, ax, hammer, pick and many other farming tools. The key is how your body compensates for each respective weapon.

Please refrain from referencing entertainment for establishing historical claims. Regardles of size, a katana (or its larger cousins like the no-dachi) were draw-cut weapons and, as such, not functional for penitrating armor.

I wasn't, you can look it up wherever you want. A katana was not just a draw and cut weapon. You can take a katana off nipponto.com and ram it through a car door.

Japanese swords were brittle compared to their western counterparts.

What is your basis for this claim? I'd imagine that if a blade is thicker than no, it won't shatter as easily.

Don't try and compare kendo to kenjutsu. Its sort of like comparing TKD to Muay Thai.

Well.. not all car doors are alike. I doubt a katana would go easily through the car door of a Chrysler Imperial, while I could probrably put a bo staff through a car door from the late 90s. I can't speak for the more modern "rebounding" door panels. Although my mom's car has them, and the dealer mercilessly kicked the car repeatedly to demonstrate their resilience, she won't let me hit them with anything. :P

One of the benefits of having a crazy redneck stepdad is that he does crazy redneck things. I think it was a 95 Geo Prizm. Probably not the tank of cars, but come on.
