YoungGrasshopper Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 For example, I don't belong to any "WTF" Taekwondo school anymore, am I still obligated to compete in their tournaments? I am not registered to any Karate school, am I still obligated to enter a Karate Competition? If there IS a way for some 14 year old from outside of any dojo to compete, can somene give me info or directions on "how to"? Thanks in advanced. P.S: (Because my instructor set everything up for me for when I was in his school[all I needed was money to pay], this is why I have no idea on how to get in one on my own).
tommarker Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 call the sponsoring studio and get the paperwork.. fill it out, and put your old studio info. as long as the check doesn't bounce, i'm sure you'll be fine I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
MawashiGeri60 Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 well u dont need so much experience to enter tournaments .. because u can spar in tournies with a beginners level . and they usually there for there first time also so u dont have to worry about a thing , i rememeber my first toruni i was nervous and didnt strike much but it is a gooe experience so u will not be afraid of fighting in public and or just trying your techniques out with other people of different styles .
YoungGrasshopper Posted July 31, 2003 Author Posted July 31, 2003 Surely by putting my old studio info, I would have to get my old masters permission right? Because if I were to let's say, "not do well" it would create negative factors for the rest of his students competing. Because I remember WTF competition was like you were fighting there to represent your school(it wasn't some invidiual fighter thing). And depending on the overall students score OF THE CERTAIN STUDIO, that studio may recieve a trophy. So, I don't think I could just slap on my old schools info and say "Yes, I'm competing for this school!"...or could I???
White_Tiger Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Did you have to pay association dues at your old school? If you did, and they have not expired then you should be eligible to still compete in their tournaments. If you still have a good relationship with your old Instructor call and ask him/her. If it is an open tournament you should be able to enter regardless of your affiliation with a school. Also check into the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). They offer state and national level competitions, and Jumior Olympics. Don't worry about experience at a tournament. Most try to divide competitors up by age and rank. If it is a large tournament then they may go by height and weight as well. Good Luck!!
YoungGrasshopper Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 SOoO...what you're saying iss I need to find an "Open Tournament"?? Where can I find information about Open Tournaments being held??
White_Tiger Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 I would use the Internet, or contact schools in your area to see if they have open tournaments. Even if they don't they probably get flyers about tournaments. Try http://www.aautaekwondo.org for starters. Good luck to you.
