Have you guys/gals ever done this?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, My legs are killing me today. Last night in class our Hanshi had us partner up and take turns carrying each other across the dojo in a low zenkutsu dachi with the correct c-stepping and all. :brow: After that we had to walk the length of the dojo under a stretched out tape in zenkutsu and kiba dachi's, no head bobbing allowed. I'm sore today but it was a great work out. Walking with someone on your back not only helps your strength but is great for balance as well. Have you folks done exercises like these or something similiar in your training?

Yeah

We used to do a lot of stuff on one knee, a lot of squat kicks, lots of isometric side kicks, and low stance burnouts.

Sucks but good

In my Wushu class its pretty routine for us to end a class by doing horse stances for time. Now...keep in mind that the Wushu horse stance is done with thighs exactly parallel to the ground. Our longest time in the beginner class has been three minutes, fifteen seconds. You've probably seen in Kung Fu movies (the original drunken master, for instance) this excercise done with cups filled with water resting on the thighs. Same idea.

In a shotokan class many years ago we used to do the same thing, only with a partner standing with a foot on our legs on either side of our body. Only a minute though. It definitely paid to pick the right partner on that excercise.

Back in the day, we use to have a partner stand on us as we stood in a deep horse stance. No walking though, just standing in horse with your partner for a set amount of time. The other "burn" is being in a seated position up along the wall, holding out front kicks, and puching up/sliding back down to seat position again. All this after a whole bunch of other excercises to "warm" us up :brow: .
