sansoouser Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 go here and read what judo really is, http://www.blackbeltmag.com/archives/blackbelt/1992/jun92/combatjudo/combatjudo.html The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
Kyle-san Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I completely agree with everything said there. Unfortunately, as with other martial arts, a few bad schools and instructors have left a bad impression of Judo as nothing more than a sport art.
sansoouser Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 ya, mostly in judo, what my sensei teaches me is to use a strike or a few as distractions then a throw. Treebranch Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Kodokan Judo? Kano's Judo is the best Judo out there. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
sansoouser Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 ya kodokan, the one kano developed The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
Treebranch Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Yeah, that's the real deal. Kano was in a sense a genius. It was said that he learned very quickly any fighting art he studied and would find the core of it very quickly. In a way Judo is the core of Jujutsu, with some minor adjustments. Judo also has less techniques, but the katas are supposed embody the core of Jujutsu. It's very effective, but most people study Olympic Judo or other more sports oriented Judo styles. sansoouser Posted July 30, 2003 Author Posted July 30, 2003 ya, kano was great at redirecting force. I saw of his fighting videos where people tried to take him and whoop over they went. He went against wreslting guys, and people who simulated street fighters and boxers. The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
