I've trained with a marine before (and one of my best friends from high school is a marine) and they both said that what they learn extremely basic. People like special forces also undergo psychological training as well, such as taping oranges over the eyes of people, and then practicing to gouge them out with their thumb. Thus, they are a lot more comfortable using lethal techniques because they train that way. And, with the other argument before, if you are in special forces, not only are you in very good shape, but you are very smart. Special forces is not all brute strength, to get in, you have to be a quick learner as well.

They can train you to kill in a short amount of time because MOST of the time you are attacking someone who doesn't know more than you. I'd expect someone who has been studying in the MA for years to be able to "take out" a guy that had a short 1 month of training.

let me speak as an individual that was in the special forces , trained with them for years, was in the military for years, and was a former teacher of the special forces hand to hand combat training.

the special forces dont get great hand to hand training, they get enough to know how to kill but not enough to make them good fighters, we mostly train with weapons, i would take my time to give them every little bit of fighting training that i could give, but they don't get much training .....just enough to know a little if they ever are caught with out a weapon.

That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger

you really have to stop believing what you see in the movies.

not all armed forces guys are trained in 97 ways to kill a man with his thumb...

post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are.

"When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."

Military strip down the techniques so much that they only teach you the bare essentials. also these days they mostly just shoot there enemies so they dont need to much hand-to-hand training.

i think my sifu put it best. him and i were having a chat one afternoon and he told me that:

"if you're wanting to learn how to beat people up... you can go to any martial arts academy, and within a year you'll be more lethal of a fighter than most civilians... BUT... what i'm trying to teach is how to better yourself as a human being. to be respectful to others, and to help my students to earn confidence in themselves"

honestly... i train in the martial arts to have a good time. NO ONE is running outside your door with samurai swords waiting to challenge you to a duel. i guarantee that the majority of people on this website have had more physical encounters than anyone ever will in a lifetime.
