cross Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Stick, Depends how you learn it, nearly all the same principles can be applied to any weapon.
monkeygirl Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 I would go with three lengths of stick: knife, escrima and bo staff. That way if you have a bottle, mid-size stick/branch, or a broomstick (respectively), you're prepared 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
stl_karateka Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 What you guys don't carry your SAIs everywhere you go! No seriously --- it would be a staff weapon KarateForums.com Sempai
JerryLove Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 For the express purpose of being most likely to be able to improvise it? Either a flexable weapon (rope), as clothing is almost always available; or a rock/small weight. https://www.clearsilat.com
BruceLee Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 A long staff, broom handles, whatever... and a knife. Like the size of a kitchen knife so if in need, you can use a kitchen knife as a weapon, and handle it like a master. The meaning of life... is to live.
tommarker Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 well, at least jerry agrees with me I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Sauzin Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Definitely a bo. Even if there isn't a stick around, there's always the guy's arm/leg/torso that works just as well. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
delta1 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 For readily available and effectively improvised techniques that work with a wide variety of weapons: Number one has to be sticks. But tommarker and JerryLove have a good point about flexable weapons, and they'd probably be a close second. Freedom isn't free!
The Saint Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 I would use a cane,...for a couple of reasons 1) you can use the hook part to hook and sweep your opponent 2) there are tones of take downs using pressure points and weak spots 3) It's an everyday item that nobody would suspect to be a weapon. 4) theres lots more applications too for more info go to http://www.accesswave.ca/~mckennatkd/lacanne.htm "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to go to his class." Sasori_Te Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I would have to say stick techniques using various sizes. Bo, jo, escrima.....etc... I would say cane also except that the original post was speaking of weapons that could be improvised. I'm not sure how you could improvise a cane unless you had an umbrella handy. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.
