Kirves Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 A theoretical question. If you were to only learn one weapon, which one would you study, if we wanted it to be as easily as possible substituted with an improvised weapon?
Warp Spider Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 I'd go with knife or possibly stick. A lot of objects can be used like a knife, though if they aren't sharp it's not nearly as effective. Screwdrivers can't really slash, but they can stab and a quick slash still gives a painful scrape. Broken beer bottles aren't as aerodynamic but are still sharp. If it wasn't broken yet, it can still be used with a knife technique as a clubbing weapon. A sharp rock could maybe work but it would be harder to locate one. Keys can be used to some extent with a knife technique, though they usually aren't very sharp or large. Sticks are also often in abundance. Pool cues, actual sticks, car antennas (note that breaking off someone else's car antenna can quickly lead to a 2 on 1 battle if they are present or show up during the fight.) A crowbar, baseball bat, or wrench could also be used with a stick technique, though less effectively. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
LeaF Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 (edited) yea definitly some kinda of stick... perhaps a jo (4 foot staff) you can find substitutes everwhere.... now if we are talking about fun... then I'd stick with the katana Edited July 29, 2003 by LeaF Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. Drunken Monkey Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 weapon that's fun to learn? tough one... i still have a fondness for the crazy old chinese things like nine section whip and three section staff. i know, they're totally non-improvisable but what the hell, they're fun. if i want to learn somethig that i can use with anything then i guess the good old stick/pole forms are the most sensible. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Sho-ju Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 stone, rock, rim of a hat, keys, credit card, belt, jacket, etc.
Treebranch Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 I'd have to agree with a stick. A Jo. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Warp Spider Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 stone, rock, rim of a hat, keys, credit card, belt, jacket, etc. Rim of a hat and a cerdit card? How do you fight with the rim of a hat, and prevent the credit card from snapping off as soon as you hit someone? (Unless it's one of those fancy metal ones) The rest are all good ones. Sho-ju Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Use the credit card to slice at the eyes, and the rim of the hat to slam the nose or eyes. Not a good weapon but it's on hand.
tommarker Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 I would choose to train in flexible weapons. Rope, chain, whip, chain whip, etc. in terms of improvised weapons, you usually have either flexible or rigid weapons. Long rigid weapons (ooh!) translate to staff work, shorter sticks are like basic kali movements, and tiny rigid weapons are used in a yawara fistload style. skills with the flexible weapon are a little more difficult to develop, and aren't as intuitive to use. with a flexible weapon you can: - whip - slash - block - snare - choke - throw - lock Flexible weapons are everywhere, and almost everyone has at least one with them. Belts, shirts, jackets, can be readily used. towels and bandanas are perfectly innocent looking until you've been wrapped up in one. Power cords, ropes, phone cords, ethernet cords, chains, bike cables, etc. all have very nasty applications. Where you would snare an incoming strike with a belt, a thin weapon such as a phone cord will dig deep into the other person's skin and make a pretty nasty choking aide. Outside of sanitized socialist wushu, the chain whip is a pretty nasty concealed weapon I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Cybren Posted August 4, 2003 Posted August 4, 2003 I'd have to say a Bo, or escrima. There's ALWAYS a stick somewhere around..a pole..a broom...something. it's probably one of the more handy weapons to learn to use
