punching

Recommended Posts

do you really need to learn to punch? After watching enough boxing movies it seems easy, and it is natural where as kicks must be taught. Cave men used punches, and kicks too.

The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.

Yes, you must be taught the intracacies of the punch. Sure, you can slug, hit, slam, or pummel, but to punch...that takes skill.

well, it also comes down to the amount of training you do.

yes, i believe that we should all learn how to correctly throw a punch

if you don't learn the fine details you may punch with your wrist bent, this will result in broken wrists at some point in time, also punching with the last knuckles of the hand instead of the first two, these are weaker and set at an angle with the fist to make it much easier to break so that is why we tend to punch with the first 2 knuckles, so in order to save your hands from damage it is good to learn the proper techniques.

GO to a boxing gym, they will teach you the value of learning how to punch properly :D

When I used to be a boxer, the lessons on blocking, parrying, and dodging tended to be a lot more painful

I guess you can compare it to driving a car. Anyone can push a gas pedal and use a steering wheel, but not everyone knows the rules of how to drive.

Anyone can throw a punch. How it is executed is what you are learning. What to punch with, how to twist/rotate your hips, where you are looking, angles, etc. When students progress in their training, they are constantly looking at techniques and how they are applied in order to more perfect them.

i think changing gears is a better analogy.

most people can figure it out but not many can match engine speed, car speed, clutch, road position, car position like a WRC driver.

Unless you want some broken hands you better learn how.
