TKDMASTER Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 I can not say one style is the best, but as far as striking tkd works for me. I love ju-jitsu though.
iolair Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 Physical Fitness: from my experience only, I'd say Judo gives the best workout. Power Moves: I'm not sure what you mean by "power moves", but TKD and Capoeira are, in their own different ways, probably the most impressive to watch. Self Defense:Anything that combines western boxing techniques with work at other ranges (as there are not many mainstream arts that offer this, practicing 2 or more style is probably best. Not many people would want to face someone proficient in both Muay Thai and BJJ for example.) Long Term Training: Fencing Hobby: Has to be down to personal taste.... Currently: Kickboxing and variants.Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.
ramymensa Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 Best martial art ... for whom? For you or for me? because we could not put it into general terms. The best MA is what you make of it and it's different from person to person. I found Shotokan answered all my needs. I also like to be rounded, thus I'll learn as many techniques as I possibly can from any other style. I stick to Shotokan because I love it and consider it to be THE BEST. FOR ME. Not for you ... There are people who like Tai Chi, Sistema, Krav Maga, Judo .... For them the best style is different from mine. And it should be so. They have other needs, other preocupations, other personalities. What's good for me isn't necessary good for you. It's important that all should find what's BEST for themselves, persue their OWN ideals and look tolerant towards the others. Find your own best style and love it, respect it, train and make it the best, not by words, but by your own efforts. World Shotokan Karate

Just purchased Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio DVD and it had a "behind the scenes" segment on Bruce Dickinson fencing. He's good. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 theres really no best martial art, only some are better than others "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Kensai Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 JJ fighter, I was thinking the very same thing. I think its a toss up between, Gundo and Rundo.
