i've found schools in my area charge anywhere from $75-$300 a month. it depends on what your looking for. some places are seriously overcharging and you can tell from visiting that the quality of the instruction is NOT worth the money.

and you'll have to look at how many classes you're allowed to take per month - i pay about $105 a month for unlimited martial arts and cardio classes. some schools might only offer 2-3 classes a week or even fewer, and then you certainly don't want to pay as much. when i did the math and divided the amount i pay by the number of classes i take per month, it comes down to only about $5.50 per class.

also, if you're shopping for schools, don't forget about the other "hidden" costs - sparring gear, uniforms, testing fees, etc....

$30 to $50 per month is about the going rate in my area for good instruction. One in Wenatchee charges $70 a month, but you get unlimmited use of facilities and he is a world class instructor. About $20 to $40 per hour for private instruction. Contracts are not popular, and those that do them are frowned on by the MA community here.

As much as you want to pay for it.

Private lessons will always be more. However high prices don't mean good teaching.

  • 2 weeks later...

I pay 100 a month, I can take 2 classes a day every day of the week (except Sundays, oh, and on saturdays only one class per day) and every class has 2 (sometimes 1) black belt instructors actively teaching. So far, I've never had a class taught by a brown belt, only *. instruction.

So... compare the cost to the quality of the school. 30 a month doesn't you're getting 30% of what you could get, and 100 a month doesn't mean you get 100%. I suggest you set a max for yourself, then look at the schools quality. If you find two schools that you like equally, take the one that's cheapest :)

I think it all depends on the instructor I only pay 20 dollars for 6 months.
