telsun
How many of you train with Chishi? What do you use it to develop? I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
SaiFightsMS
I think with proper training and supervision they would be great for upper body flexibility, range of motion and strenght.
chh
Yup, pretty much all upper body muscles. Personally I've been repeatedly encouraged to focus on my forearm muscles with them. Do you train with nigiri game, Telsun?
telsun
Well guess theres not many people using them, or even interested for that matter chh I have trained with nigiri game (is that the right spelling?) but do not train with them extensively. I find them kinda boring! I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"

SaiFightsMS
I don't know that it is a matter of people not interested as it is giving them time to see this thread. Not eveyone checks in every day. And then too, not everyone knows what they are. Why not post some information about them.
RedDragon
What is Chishi? AdamTraditional Japanese Goju Ryu KarateMike Lasci's Northern Martial Arts CentreMy lifestyle determines my deathstyle
telsun
Chishi=Power stone: The chishi is traditionally a concrete or stone weight at the end of a wooden handle, like a dumbell with a weight on only one end. It is mainly used to strengthen the grip, as well as the joints of the elbows, wrists and shoulders. The exercises develop the muscles used in blocking, striking and grappling techniques. This a basic description. Chishi is commonly used within Okinawan Karate styles. As you do Okinawan Goju-ryu RedDragon I am surprised that you are not familiar with it. Although it is not essential training so some schools have probably dropped it. When I trained Japanese Goju we did not do Chishi either. Infact I had never even heard of it until I started Okinawan Goju. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
