TKD Chosen One Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 I used a very effective method to deal with a guy holding a bat. When I was around thirteen, a friend and i were at a neighborhood park bored out of our minds. There was a high school baseball team from the private school across the street practising at the park. They weren't very good so my friend and i started telling them they swung like little girls and that our grandma's could outplay them...that we were going to go wake them up from their nap so they could show their sorry coach how to play. We did this throughout their entire practise and then the coach called them into a huddle told them something and then he started walking back to the school.......all of a sudden the whole team started charging me and my friend with bats a balls in their hands. We stood there for a few seconds shocked and then started hauling...i swear i've never run so fast in my whole life!!! We ran into the neighborhood jumping fences and somehow we managed to lose them. Moral of the story: haul butt and jump a few fences.
DokterVet Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 I say this because my brother is very critical of all MA even though he knows virtually nothing about them. Though I don't claim to be a great fighter, he thinks that he, a relatively weak person, can defeat any martial artist if he is only given a baseball bat. He thinks that if Oyama approached him he would "envision his midsection as a baseball"(even though he doesn't play baseball) and swing it at him and therefore kill him. so tell me about your encounters with baseball bats A non-baseball player and non-martial artist against Mas Oyama? I'd like to see that. In fact I'd pay to see it. In fact I'd like to see him take on Ortiz or Sakuraba. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
Icetuete Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 is there any style that teaches the use of baseball bats???
Warp Spider Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 Stick-fighting arts would likely be applied to bats as well. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
Icetuete Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 a stick (u mean a bo-staff u guess) is something completely different then a baseball bat. the bat is more of a club than a stick.
Martial_Artist Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Actually I think that he's referring to Filipino stick arts. "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.Imagination is more important than knowledge.Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." Einstein
Warp Spider Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Yes. I don't know the names of them.. but something like the "dog brothers" stick fighting would probrably be an effective method of using a bat. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
ShotokanKen Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 just dont use a baseball bat ORANGE Belt(WTF) TaeKwonDo
tokeabowl Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 bats are pretty heavy and therefore, they cannot be controled too well. When some one takes a swing at you with a baseball bat, the only way to get away is to dodge it. DO NOT TRY TO BLOCK IT WITH YOUR HANDS! after one swing, move in quickly and get close to the person. And start wrestling the person. If you are really close to him, he will not be able to hit you! tokin' chokin' chillin'PRIDE! OKINAWA PRIDE!
Drunken Monkey Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 i was always under the impression that you don't block a bat type weapon with your hands rather get as close as you can and interrupt their swing or wait for it to swing pass you then trap them. anyone actually tried this? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
